Viet Nam Expands Pre-Arrival Information System, Reducing Entry Time for Foreign Visitors

TMG – Following a successful pilot at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Viet Nam is actively rolling out its Pre-arrival Information (PAI) System, designed to ease entry procedures for international travellers.

Since April 2026, The Immigration Department of Viet Nam has officially required certain categories of passengers to complete an online declaration when undergoing entry procedures at Tan Son Nhat International Airport. Accordingly, starting from April 15, 2026, all foreign nationals and overseas Vietnamese entering the country on a visa through Tan Son Nhat must complete the online declarations before arrival.

Viet Nam is actively rolling out its Pre-arrival Information (PAI) System, designed to ease entry procedures for international travellers.

Following the success of the initial pilot at Tan Son Nhat, during which roughly 70% of foreign travellers used the system and 51%completed their declarations successfully, the Immigration Department will expand the PAI System to other international airports, beginning with Phu Quoc Airport from June 2026.

For travellers, the PAI System offers several practical benefits:

– Saves time and helps avoid unnecessary complications during entry procedures

– Reduces waiting times at airports, especially during peak hours

– Can be completed anytime, anywhere via an internet-connected device, up to three days before arrival in Viet Nam

How to submit a declaration:

  • Step 1: Access the website https://prearrival.immigration.gov.vn
  • Step 2: Select a suitable language (Vietnamese, English, Chinese, French, etc.).
  • Step 3: Select “Create and submit declaration,” enter the CAPTCHA verification code, then provide personal information, visa and travel details as instructed.
  • Step 4: After completing the declaration, the system will generate a QR code for use during entry. Visitors are advised to save the QR code on their mobile devices or print it out for convenient use at the border gates.

Note: The PAI System is intended solely to collect pre-arrival travel information and does not process or approve visa applications for foreign nationals.

Viet Nam’s new PAI system is expected to help create a positive first impression for international friends and overseas Vietnamese returning home.

The rollout of the PAI System marks a significant step for Viet Nam’s tourism sector, reflecting the country’s determination to advance digital transformation, improve service quality and enhance the overall entry experience — helping create a positive first impression for international friends and overseas Vietnamese returning home.
