Designed in a classic French architectural style, the two-story Le Longanier Restaurant welcomes visitors through its sage-green plantation doors into a scene from French Indochina, complete with a terracotta roof, artfully stenciled walls and beautifully crafted wooden furniture. Small details complete the nostalgic setting, like a wooden canoe bobbing in the stream nearby, a rustic yoke and vintage accessories.
Staff clad in flowing Vietnamese tunics and local costumes serve diners traditional dishes from the Mekong Delta like fermented fish hot pot, crispy fried elephant ear fish, and fresh summer rolls. Lunch in this peaceful, village-like setting is an experience to be cherished.
Le Longanier in French means the “longan farmer,” a juicy, sweet fruit that’s grown all over the delta, including the pretty grounds of the restaurant. In the surrounding canals, people often transport fruit in wooden canoes, a throwback to simpler times.
