International travelers are no longer required to present a negative test result for SARS-CoV-2 to enter Vietnam.
Hanoi, May 16, 2022 – According to the Prime Minister’s Official Telegram 416/CĐ-TTg dated May 13, 2022, the policy requiring travelers to test for SARS-CoV-2 before entering Vietnam will be suspended starting 0:00 am on May 15, 2022. The letter states that, according to the World Health Organization’s announcement, the number of cases and deaths from COVID-19 is decreasing globally and vaccines are still effective for variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Many countries and territories have gradually relaxed their anti-pandemic measures, including COVID-19 testing requirements for travelers.
Vietnam has enjoyed positive results after strict implementation of COVID-19 policies, involving multi-faceted solutions for disease prevention as well as safe and flexible adaptation to conditions, resulting in effective control of the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of new cases in the country has been steadily declining since March 15, 2022, while the number of severe cases and deaths related to COVID-19 has also decreased. In addition, the coverage rate of COVID-19 vaccines has been high.
In that context, the Ministry of Health issued a written instruction to stop the implementation of medical declarations for people entering Vietnam from April 27, 2022.
To ensure the application of measures to prevent and control the pandemic, and at the same time create favorable conditions to promote socio-economic development restoration activities, authorities will closely monitor the pandemic situation and promptly provide guidance on appropriate prevention and control measures. The Ministry of Transport will direct airlines to take measures to prevent the spread of the pandemic according to the guidance of the Ministry of Health.
