THE MEMBERS OF THE PRIVATE SECTOR DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH BOARD: WHO ARE THEY?

Minister and Chairman of the Office of the Government Mai Tien Dung has just signed the Decision setting up the Private Sector Development Research Board of the Advisory Council for Administrative Procedure Reform.

The Private Sector Development Research Board (abbreviated as IV Board) consists of 6 members. Particularly, Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of Vietnam Association of Software and IT Service, Vice Chairman of Advisory Council for Administrative Procedure Reform assumes the position of Chairman of the Board; and Don Lam, General Director of VinaCapital Group, Vice Chairman of Global Council on ASEAN (World Economic Forum) assumes the position of Vice Chairman of the Board. The other 4 members in the IV Board are also the famous and successful businessmen in Vietnam.

1. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Software and IT Service, Vice Chairman of the Advisory Council for Administrative Procedure Reform.

Truong Gia Binh was born in 1956. He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in 1979 and defended successfully his phD dissertation in Moscow State University in 1983. In 1991, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor. Truong Gia Binh is one the founders of FPT and currently assuming the position of Chairman of the Group.

FPT Corporation has charter capital of more than 4,617 billion VND. The Group’s core business lines are Information Technology and Telecommunications. FPT has provided their services to 63/63 provinces in Vietnam and continued to expand its presence globally in 21 countries. By the end of 2016, FPT’s consolidated revenue was 40,545 billion Vietnam Dong, 1.4% increased comparing to 2015, profit after tax was 2,576 billion Vietnam Dong, 6% increased comparing to the last year.

2. Don Lam, General Director of VinaCapital Group, Vice Chairman of the Global Council on ASEAN (World Economic Forum)

Don Di Lam, a Canadian, was born in 1967. He is a co-founder and CEO of VinaCapital Group. He has turned VinaCapital from a single fund of 10 million USD to a leading investment organization managing four funds of 2.2 billion USD and providing corporate and real estate finance consulting services.

Prior to founding VinaCapital, Don Di Lam was Deputy General Director of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Vietnam. He was in charge of corporate finance and management consultancy throughout Indochina. The transactions he worked on at PwC included the equalization of many state-owned enterprises, the acquisition of shares of foreign companies, and the beginning of the purchase and sale of debt and equity of Vietnam companies. He also held management positions at Deutsche Bank and Coopers & Lybrand in Vietnam and Canada.

3. Mai Huu Tin, Chairman of Business Federation of Binh Duong Province

Mai Huu Tin was born in 1969. He holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration of the University of Southern California. At present, Mai Huu Tin is the Chairman and General Director of U & I Investment Joint Stock Company (Unigroup). In addition, he is also a Member of the National Assembly XII – XIII, Chairman of the Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs Association IV; Vice President of the Vietnam Youth Union.

4. Nguyen Hoang Anh, Chairman of Shrimp Association of Binh Thuan Province

Nguyen Hoang Anh is the General Director of Nam Mien Trung Aquaculture Investment Co., Ltd. For almost 20 years of development, the Company has owned 6 seed shrimp production centres from Nghe An to Bac Lieu with a total area of 30 ha and total production capacity of 12 billion seed shrimps. Nam Mien Trung has invested 1,000 billion VND in facilities and technologies transfer.

Nguyen Hoang Anh said at the conference on the workshop of agricultural industry in Vietnam that the number of USD 3-4 billion achieved from shrimp export each year has not reflected the full potential of the shrimp industry. If the industry is invested heavily, it is likely to reach a turnover of USD10 billion annually.

5. Tran Trong Kien, Member of the Tourism Advisory Board

Tran Trong Kien was born in 1973. He graduated from Hanoi Medical University as a general practitioner and holds a Master of Business Administration of the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

He is the Founder/Chairman and CEO of Thien Minh Group (TMG), an integrated Travel Group specializing in the Southeast Asian region. He originally started running local tours to fund his medical studies before founding Buffalo Tours in 1994. In the past 23 years, TMG has grown tremendously from the original Buffalo Tours brand to an integrated travel group in Southeast Asia which currently consists of four main business lines: Destination Management, Hospitality, Aviation and Online.

Kien also is a member of several professional organizations, including the Board of the Asia Commercial Bank, Vinaland Limited (London Stock Exchange – VNL) and Fulbright University Vietnam (FUV).

6. Vu Van Tien, Member of the Advisory Board of the Vietnam Private Sector Forum (VPSF)

Vu Van Tien was born in 1959. He graduated from the Institute of Military Technology and National Economics University. Currently, Vu Van Tien is the Chairman of the Board cum General Director of Hanoi Export –Import Joint Stock Company (Geleximco); Chairman of the Board of Directors of ABBANK; Member of the Advisory Board of the Vietnam Private Sector Forum.

Geleximco was founded in 1993 with the initial investment of 2,5 billion VND. Geleximco is a strategic shareholder of many large enterprises, including ABBANK, An Binh Securities Joint Stock Company (ABS), An Binh
