TMG – Despite a whirlwind business schedule in, David Đỗ, Thien Minh Group Board Member, took a moment to send a special congratulations note all the way to Hoi An for TMG’s 30th-anniversary celebration.
“Very sorry I couldn’t make it in person on September 16th. I’m actually in Saigon, staying at EMM. TMG has worked very closely with the government to reduce travel restrictions. We still have more work to do.
We were the first outside investor in TMG. Besides anh Kien’s (founder) leadership & vision, we invested because of the company’s mission & values. Sustainable tourism. Economic development for remote areas. TMG was one of the first Vietnamese companies with foreign partners (e.g., Intrepid), which is critical to Vietnam’s economic development. We were very impressed with how integrated foreign team members with the local team.
TMG has been through many highs (international expansion in the DMC business), expansion into hotels & cruises, online travel, and aviation; and new partners such as TUI. Also many lows, from typhoons to COVID, and has proven to be a very resilient company. Our firm has always been very proud to refer customers to TMG because we know that they will be well looked after.

TMG has a very bright future ahead. Travel has rebounded. TMG has always serviced premium (vs. mass market), and as GDP/capita grows, TMG is well positioned. TMG has always been an early mover, e.g., hired a CTO (Cong) who became a GM.
TMG is well-positioned to implement new technology (such as AI) across all business lines. As we rebuild Vivu Journeys to be bigger than Buffalo, TMG can expand geographically much quicker. TMG’s human capital and customer service have always been its greatest strengths. We need to continue to develop the next generation of leaders (we need more people like Xuan Thu).
It’s great for Vietnam that Korea is now the largest source of tourists, as the average spending per tourist will increase. TMG caught the increase in tourism from India early. India will replace the slowdown in Chinese tourists. Vietnam must be more welcoming for tourists from the Middle East & Islamic countries. [I was very happy to meet a Thai Muslim guide from Vivu Journeys when I went to Phuket]. Of course, TMG will need to continue to meet the evolving needs of our core customers from Europe, Australia, the US, and Vietnam, domestic and outbound.
